Echoes of a System is a projection-mapped video work created for Design Austin’s 2026 WaterWork, an annual public art event that transforms the historic Seaholm Intake Building through large-scale light and projection. Presented across the building’s facade, the work was experienced by more than 3,000 viewers from both land and water.

The piece reimagines the Intake Building as a living memory processor, drawing from its history as infrastructure that once controlled the flow of water into Austin. The projection begins as the building appears to wake into digital space. Its ten sluice gates become channels for footage filmed throughout Seaholm as color spills across the facade and fragments of the surrounding landscape begin to collide and distort.

As the system grows increasingly dense, it eventually glitches and quiets. The imagery slows into visual echoes between the natural and constructed world, allowing familiar forms to mirror one another across the building. Echoes of a System reflects on how a place can hold memory through transformation and how traces of what came before remain present within what is still becoming.
